KAYDEN's NARRATION

  The aroma of various substances mixed in the air that makes up the pharmaceutical atmosphere is drowning me as I stand amidst the busy main functioning hall of this whole factory. I am getting lost. The face mask that protects me from the smell and effect of chemicals of the laboratory seems like getting useless.

  I followed what everyone was doing with dizzy eyes. There were a lot of laboratory tables with tubes, powdered substances and different colored liquids on the top of it handled by people who were in their lab gown--the same thing I was wearing due to necessary disguise. There were a lot of men in blue uniform who were half-running, busy either organizing white transparent sacks filled with those powdered white substances or yelling for each other's help and information.

  [Kayden? KAYDEN! DAMN!]

  I was brought back to reality upon hearing Katana's voice through the very tiny receiver on my ears. Mabilis akong umiling-iling para gisingin ang sarili at saka nagpatuloy sa paglalakad dala ang isang cork board. Right, you're in a mission, Kayden. Don't let yourself be affected of the chemicals.

  I cleared my throat and gave them my update. "I'm in. I'm sorry for the delayed update. The information were proven."

  Nasabi na sa meeting na matapang ang mga chemical na nasa loob ng factory'ng 'to at maaring maka-apekto sa sistema namin kahit sa pang-amoy lang. And among the four of us in this team, I was the lucky one who has been assigned to disguised as one of the guys in lab-gowns.

  Inikot ko ang tingin sa loob ng lugar, hinahanap ang main computer. The main computer where I could connect this little transmitter that Strife gave me. The only way to give him access and hack the system of the factory we are currently insinuating.

  "Doc."

  Napalingon ako nang biglang may brasong pumigil sa akin sa paglalakad. I turned to who it was and saw a lady who was wearing a lab gown and a face mask. Based on her eyes, I can say that she's a few years older than I. Sinulyapan nya ang plate name na nasa dibdib ko saka ako muling tiningnan sa mata.

  "Doctor Pamares, would you give this to Dra. Alvis for me?" Inabot niya sa akin ang hawak nyang dalawang tube, one with a blue liquid and another one with a yellow liquid.

  "Sure. Where is she?" Kinuha ko ang inabot niya.

  "She's assigned to lysergic acid diethylamide, remember?" Kunot-noo nyang sagot.

  Matipid naman akong ngumiti. "Right. I'll be going." Hindi ko na hinintay ang sagot niya at tinalikuran na sya nang dala ang tubes. Damn, what now?

  Inikot ko na naman ang tingin sa paligid. Lysercic acid deithylamide, where the hell am I supposed to look for that? The name's familiar. I know I encountered this before. Pumikit ako at inalala ang mga librong nabasa ko. I'm in a laboratory for illegal drugs. I should think of the books I read that were all about drugs. Lysergic acid deithylamide, lysergic acid---LSD! Right. LSD, an illegal drug that causes people to see and hear things that do not really exist.

  Nang maalala ang hitsura nito ay mabilis kong iginala ang tingin, looking for any laboratory table that must resemble the picture I had in my mind about the said drug. Upon scanning the area, my gaze landed on the stage at the end of the hall. There was a hologram screen that suddenly popped up. There, I saw quiet a lot of people in lab gowns. That, hologram screen, must be the main computer. And how lucky can I be? Nandoon din ang sa tingin ko'y mesa para sa mga tube na hawak ko. And so, I wasted no time and sauntered to that direction.

  We, Katana, Raven, Emerald and I, were assigned as the first group of tonight's mission of Black Organization. Our group was given a codename 4GV001 in this mission labeled as Averty. The thirteen members of Black Organization had been splitted into four with each group composed of three members. Except ours.

  Conventionally, there's another group who aimed our disappearance in Underground Society. And this one's a group composed of hackers and drug dealers. In their capability of hacking, they were able to plan four different attacks that will all happen tonight. Each attack was given a codename. We are not into underestimating adversary especially that we are well-informed of their capability so we had to split into four groups tonight to avert their plans that had been leaked to us with the help of some spy just right on time.

  And our group had been assigned to deal with the first attack; given the codename 4GV001. Which happens to be the most important mission because the lives of most of us lies into this. Every each mansion of the families of Black Organization is bound to explode due to a command sent to a satellite through a computer. There was no way to cancel it but to approach the very device used to send the message. And because it is related to bombs and computer, Raven and I were assigned to be in the same group paired with Emerald who has expertise in guns to cover us and Katana who would serve as this team's leader for the analytical well-founded strategies.

  Sandali lang ay nakarating na ako sa mismong stage kung saan nagtitipon ang ilan sa mga naka-lab gown at staffs habang may tinitingnan sa hologram screen. Naagaw ko ang atensyon nila sa pagdating ko kaya naman itinaas ko ang dalawang tube na hawak ko.

  "For Dra. Alvis."

  Nagsipaglingunan naman sila sa isa sa mga nakaupo sa mismong harap ng hologram screen. I presumed the woman they were looking at was Dra. Alvis. Kaya nang isenyas nito na ilapag ko sa isang gilid ang mga tube ay ginawa ko nalang.

  [Kayden? I need the transmitter connected now] Narinig ko ang boses ni Strife.

  [Uhm. He's in the stage na, Kuya. Makakabit nya yan in no time] Emerald was the one who answered for me. She's probably having her exploration on this hall's ceiling, she's the one in-charged to look after me while doing my task anyway.

  [But you have to do it now, Kayden. The girl you talked to earlier is on her way now to you] Dagdag ni Katana. As for her, kailangan nyang bantayan ang bawat galaw ng bawat tao sa loob ng buong hall.

  Because of the sudden rush on Katana's voice, lumapit ako kay Dra. Alvis at nakitingin din sa kung anumang naka-flash sa hologram screen. Sandali akong napapikit dahil sa bungad nito. A lot of symbols, substances under microscope, information, updates and such were all on it. Nang muli kong idilat ang mata ko ay sinubukan kong intindihin ang mga nakaflash. There should be at least some of here that I have knowledge of.

'Semisynthetic illicit organic compound...'
'Sensory distortions...'
'Number of hydrogen...'
'Radioactive isotopes...'

  "There." I suddenly blurted out, as if smirking.

  Lumapit ako kay Dra. Alvis at tinuro ang hologram screen, sa bandang information. Dahil doon ay napalingon naman ang lahat sa itinuro ko, hinihintay ang kung anumang sasabihin ko tungkol doon.

  "Don't you think we should add hydrogen chloride and dried latex on this? That would increase its analgesia for the users."

  Mabilis namang may sumagot. "But, Doctor, that would contradict our main concept. Isa pa, that would make it similar to morphine. Which is known for its analgesic and sedative."

  I waved my hand. "No. Morphine is the principal alkaloid of opium and used in the form of a soluble salt. Kung dadagdagan naman ng dried latex at hydrochloride ang isang 'to, do you think that would be its result?"

  [Umamin ka nga, Kayden] Bigla kong narinig ang boses ni Strife. [Humihithit ka ba?] What the hell?!

  Emerald chuckled from the other line. [You sound so expert kasi, Kuya]

  Hindi ko sila binigyan ng pansin at napalingon kami sa isa pang magsalita. "Hmm. It's like we're mixing the effect of opium which is analgesia and cocaine which is on euphoric effects while having our focus on lysergic acid diethylamedia. That's good."

  After the guy's line, si Katana naman ang narinig kong nagsalita. [I think you'll have a good future in illegal drugs business, Kayden] The other two laughed. [Leave the ammunition business and start building your own illegal drugs team]

  There are a lot of things to know just by reading, I wanted to say. But I couldn't. I'm a rat in a box surrounded by snakes that haven't been provoked just yet.

  [Have you connected the transmitter already?] Narinig kong tanong ni Katana.

  Kumamot ako sa ulo ko gamit ang kaliwa kong kamay. Wherever she is, I knew she can see me. A scratch using right hand means no. A scratch using left hand means yes. And I was able to connect that transmitter in a USB port below Dra. Alvis during the moment everyone fixated their eyes on the screen where I pinpointed a line.

  [Get out of there. Immediately! Our time's up] Katana suddenly sounded panicking. [They have found the body of Doctor Pamares]

  Doctor Pamares, yung kinuhanan ko nitong lab gown. Saktong pagkasabi non ni Katana ay tumunog ang phone na nasa lab gown ko. Everyone looked at me, I fished my phone and waved it.

  "Sorry, gotta dash. This is important."

  Without waiting for anyone's response, dali-dali na akong tumalikod at naglakad paalis. Habang pababa sa kaliwang hagdan ng stage ay tinatanggal ko na ang butones ng suot kong lab gown saka ko narinig ang nagmamadaling pag-akyat sa kanang stage kung saan ako umakyat kanina. Kasabay no'n ay ang boses ng isang babaeng pamilyar sa akin--ang boses ng babaeng nagbigay sa akin ng tubes kanina lang.

  "Dr. Pamares was unconscious and tied in the locker room. That one who was just here earlier was an impostor! WE HAVE BEEN INFILTRATED!"

  Napangisi ako pagpasok na pagpasok ko sa isolated hallway sa likod lang ng stage bago ko tuluyang tinapon sa kung saan ang lab gown na suot ko kasabay ng pagtanggal ko ng facemask at wig na dahilan para ang blue uniform naman ng mga staff ang maging suot ko.

  [Yeees! Second step na tayooo! I can play with these guards na] Masiglang sabi ni Emerald kasabay ng pagkasa ng baril na malamang ay kanina pang hawak niya.

  [Time for the angels to be fallen] Katana's voice before I heard her jump from something onto the ground.

  [And my turn to find which device was used to send the goddamn command to the satellite by the use of the access the transmitter gave me] Strife's voice and his typing followed.

  The alarm of the hall factory started functioning as I walk calmly. Ang kanina'y dilaw na ilaw sa hallway na dinadaanan ko ay nagsimulang magblink ng pula habang tuloy tuloy ang maingay na beep na syang nagsisilbing alarma ng buong lugar.

  "The game." I held my earpiece device. "Is on."
